Relief of Intractable Pain

Abstract
Various methods have been used for relief pain, but there are still many problems in managem ent of the intractable pain complicated with terminal malignancy.
Today, another new control method of the intractable pain is based on expanding the neurophysi ologic aspect.
Continuous epidural anesthesia to relieve the intractable pain complicating cervical malignancy seems to be least stressful to the patient and very effective.
A case of successful control of the intractable pain with metastatic lesion in cervical vertebra from lung cancer was experienced.
The pain was controlled by injection of 2¡3 ml of 1% xylocaine through a cervical epidural catheter placed at C 6-7. Injection was repeated once every 6¡8 hours.
Continuous epidural anesthesia is considered as more simple, convenient and effective than other methods for the management of cervical pain complicating malignancy.
